Hello and welcome to my website.
I hope you will enjoy looking at my paintings and perhaps pick up a tip or two on how to paint in oils along the way.
It was a visit to the National Gallery of Scotland and the discovery of the seascapes by McTaggart that first inspired me to paint. That was 20 years ago and there were very few classes in oil painting then. I had many sessions and Summer Schools at Edinburgh College of Art and I was fortunate to find really good teachers.
Oils are still my preferred medium. Yes, they are messy and they smell a bit – but good quality oils give a richness and depth to a painting and I find them easier to work with than watercolour. I now have a studio where I lose myself in ‘that quiet place which is painting’.
My studio has enough room for me to accommodate 2 or 3 beginners at a time and introduce them to painting in oils. (see painting classes)
